![]() I’d say that doing the burrito project in January stimulated a desire to do service. The bulk of my experience wasn’t in rolling the burritos but actually in handing them out. It was so cold out there and was snowing, so it made me think how it would feel to be homeless during the cold Utah winters. It was really hard to be out there handing out burritos let alone being there for the whole night like someone who would be homeless. It did change a little of my perspective because while I enjoyed my heated house, there was probably someone out there who couldn’t enjoy the same luxury. I will probably never be able to empathize with homeless people's’ situation, but it made me reflect on the privileges that I personally have. I think that activities like the Burrito Project are valuable and important because it helps develop character in the volunteers while also helping others. Out of most of the activities that NHS does, the burrito project is great because you can see the effects of your service right then and there. My quote about service is, “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth,” by Mohandas Gandhi.
