![]() What is NHS? NHS stands for National Honor Society. The purpose of this organization is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character. At Hillcrest, we have an amazing group of kids that are apart of the National Honor Society. As NHS members we have several opportunities to serve our school and community. We serve our community by going to Canyon Creek. What is Canyon Creek? Canyon Creek is an assisted living center. Being able to go to Canyon Creek relates to NHS because we have the opportunity to serve people that might not be able to perform the things that we can in our everyday lives. This also helps us develop character. We get to see things in a different perspective when we attend Canyon Creek. By going to Canyon Creek I get to meet several spectacular people, and I am very fortunate to meet them. Attending Canyon Creek has changed my life in several different ways, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to serve, and help these amazing people. At the Canyon Creek Orientation, I learned several different things about the essential things that I will need to know while I am there. One of my favorite quotes is by Dieter F. Uchtdorf, and it says, “As we lose ourselves in the service of others we discover our own lives, and our own happiness.” I love this quote because it is a true statement. I have attended Canyon Creek several different times throughout this school year. My favorite time that I attended Canyon Creek would have to be the senior homecoming dance. Being able to see these people dance, smile, and laugh was pure happiness. It was a moment that I wouldn’t ever trade. Another fun time that I visited Canyon Creek was when we sang Christmas songs to them. It was fun to be able to sing to them, and hear them sing along with us as well. In my opinion, attending Canyon Creek has been one of my favorite things that Hillcrest’s NHS has done. I think that helping peoples days be better by just sitting and talking with them is an amazing opportunity. You learn so much while you are there that every time you go back you look forward to it. It definitely is a blessing in my life as in other peoples as well. I am very grateful for this opportunity to be able to talk to others about their lives, and get out of reality every once in awhile.
